«A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM» BY SHAKESPEARE CONTEMPORARY DANCE GROUP «DANCERS OF THE NORTH»

A dance universe inspired by the relevant romantic Shakespearean drama.
Love triangles, magical interventions, passions, spells, elves and unfulfilled desires make up a dreamy night of magic.
The world of dance is absolutely connected to the Shakespearean universe. The raw material for the choreographic composition was the tradition surrounding the night of the summer solstice, which is considered a landmark in European culture, as the night where supernatural beings interact with the real world, a night of fertility ceremonies and erotic frenzy. Of all the performing arts, only dance can convey the transformative power of love, the erotic flame, the uncontrollable desires, but also the vain pretensions of mortals.

A modern aesthetic update will bring the Shakespearean narrative into the present of the sexual overconsumption, erotic hallucinogens and a return to propriety with a sense of frustration. And a question remains: Does sexual gluttony exist or is it finally an illusion like a "midsummer night's dream"? "A Midsummer Night's Dream" premiered in co-production with Τhessaloniki Concert Hall in February 2023. The “Dancers of the North” thank TCH for the provision of tutorial material.
